GPOBA has designed a new tool to help assess the suitability and feasibility of a proposed Output-Based Aid (OBA) scheme. The OBA Diagnostic Tool aims to provide high-level guidance to policymakers and practitioners when considering the suitability of OBA schemes in a given sector and/or country. It can also be used as a basis for discussion with government counterparts, country teams, service providers, and others to facilitate a decision on the feasibility of OBA and its application in a given context. |

In June 2010 the World Bank approved a loan of US$220 million for a Local Government and Decentralization project in Indonesia which is one of the first World Bank projects to apply output-based aid (OBA) principles on a large scale. OBApproaches Note 40, Strengthening Fiscal Transfers in Indonesia Using an Output-Based Approach, presents an overview of the project objectives and design.

| OBApproaches Note 38 reviews the experience with a pilot OBA project which aims to provide sustainable access to safe and affordable piped water services to low-income households in western Jakarta. To date over 5,000 households have been connected to the network and the project is now starting a second phase which will focus exclusively on informal or slum communities. Read more>> |

As part of GPOBA’s ongoing effort to share lessons and best practices in OBA through the OBApproaches series, the most recent titles are now available in up to four languages.
Note 37, Output-Based Aid and Sustainable Sanitation, explores the potential of OBA to help develop and strengthen sanitation provision and access. This paper is currently available in French and Spanish as well as English.
Note 36, Output-Based Aid in Water and Sanitation: The Experience So Far, aims to share experiences so far with the use of OBA in water and sanitation. The paper is now also available in Arabic, French and Spanish as well as English.

GPOBA Projects Benefit Over a Million People Worldwide |
Over one million people have gained access to essential services like water, energy, and healthcare as a direct result of OBA pilot projects funded by GPOBA. Since the first subsidy project was signed in 2006, the program’s portfolio has grown to 30 projects in several sectors, with a value of about US$125 million in subsidy grant funding.
