September 2008 - The Vietnam Rural Water Project, [3] which benefits from a US$3 million grant from GPOBA, aims to provide safe drinking water to about 30,000 poor families in the central part of Vietnam using an output-based approach.
One of the first safe water schemes to be built under this project is in the commune of Binh Chanh in Vietnam’s Quang Nam province.
The Binh Chanh scheme will provide clean and safe water to more than 400 families. On September 17, 2008, a ceremony was held to mark the transfer of responsibility for the Binh Chanh scheme from the East Meets West Foundation [4]to the local community, represented by the Commune People’s Committee.
At the ceremony, Xavier Chauvot de Beauchêne, the World Bank and GPOBA task manager for the project, gave a short speech in which he explains the benefits of the scheme for local families and emphasizes their role in making it sustainable.
