Look out for a new window of funding for schemes...

December 15, 2004 -- The UK''s Department for International Development (DFID) has recently approved a £20 million (approximately US $30 million) fund whereby GPOBA will be able to expand the existing scope of its activities to include the funding of subsidy payments for pilot tests of OBA approaches. Effective use of this new window could lead to significant scale-up of OBA approaches by allowing to test pilot subsidy payment schemes with secured funding via grant agreements with GPOBA.

During the initial period of testing the OBA scheme, a long-term funding mechanism for that particular OBA project could be put in place through other sources (e.g. World Bank) to secure long-term sustainability of the subsidy payment flows. GPOBA would therefore be able to add the funding of subsidy payments to its current activities of funding technical assistance, analytical studies, and dissemination (e.g. conferences, workshops, etc) of OBA schemes.
