| Activity Objectives: | The activity is a half-day seminar targeted at the participants (mainly water utilities managers, regulators and asset holding companies) of the 15th International African Water Congress organized by the African Water Association to be held in Kampala-Uganda from 15-18th March 2010. The seminar will discuss the concept of output-based aid (OBA), why it is needed, and how it applies to financing water supply services for the poor. It will also highlight GPOBA’s activities in support of OBA and identify lessons and challenges for future and ongoing OBA projects. This dissemination activity is intended to build awareness of how OBA instruments can be used to improve access to water supply services for the poor. The scope of the seminar will include a discussion on the concept of OBA and why it is needed, and share experiences with OBA water supply schemes in countries such as Uganda, Kenya, and Morocco. The seminar will be facilitated by two GPOBA staff with extensive experience in OBA approaches in the water sector. The format will involve a combination of presentations, panel discussions and Q&A, and a documentary film. Various GPOBA publications will also be distributed. |
