Using OBA for sustainable sanitation

Country   (and Region): Global  (East Asia and Pacific)
Sector(s): Other
Activity Objectives:

The main objective of the proposed activity is to investigate how output-based aid (OBA) could be used to increase sustainable access to sanitation services. This will be done via the identification of types of sanitation projects that could be financed on an OBA basis and the development of early stage draft concept notes for up to five actual OBA components in ongoing sanitation projects or those currently under development.

Project Update:

Technical assistance approved by PMU.

Development Impact:

GPOBA's role:

Given that the proposed activity is largely focused on the applicability of OBA subsidies to the sanitation sector, it is of direct interest to GPOBA and could potentially inform efforts to mainstream the pro-poor OBA approach.

One of the key outputs of the proposed activity is to identify projects that could be financed with OBA subsidies. The project identification report would identify financing requirements and potential for co-financing as part of the development of early stage draft concept notes for these projects.
