AFD, Gates Foundation and the World Bank foster new financing solutions for development

The Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie in la Villette, Paris, will host the Marketplace on Innovative Financial Solutions for Development, March 4-5, 2010.

The event - a collaboration by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the World Bank - will bring together over 1,000 participants including development practitioners, donors, philanthropists, social entrepreneurs, academics, representatives of financial institutions, and policymakers.

A highlight of the event will be the selection of five winners (from 20 finalists) of a competition on innovative financial solutions. Each of the five winners will receive a grant of US$100,000 to further develop or implement their idea.

The combination of workshops, presentations and one-on-one sessions with financial experts is designed to create a unique opportunity for participants to share knowledge and to foster the creation of innovative financial solutions to address increasingly complex development challenges.
