The first-ever in-depth study of Pay for Performance or P4P programs in low-income countries, Paying Primary Health Care Centers for Performance in Rwanda, is generating a lot of interest in the health and development communities.
The evaluation details positive results from a pilot program launched in 2005 by the Government of Rwanda in a bid to achieve performance improvements in three areas of maternal and child health care:

Despite a significant increase in funding for development in health projects recently, this is the first study to show improvements in health outcomes for people in developing countries. The evaluation is expected to encourage other nations to carry out follow-up studies in their own countries.
