OBA in Kampala – Water Connections for the Poor

Country   (and Region): Uganda  (Africa)
Sector(s): Water and Sanitation
Activity Objectives:

This OBA scheme aims to provide water services to poor households previously not served in slum and peri-urban areas of Kampala, Uganda. The OBA scheme will provide a one-off connection subsidy to partially fund the cost of new domestic metered connections. The project aims to make about 19,000 new yard tap connections and about 800 new public water points over a period of three years.

Project Update:

Grant Agreement Signed on February 19, 2008.

Development Impact:

With this project’s new connections, which include wide-reaching public water points, it is estimated that coverage for water services in the targeted urban poor settlements will reach close to 100%.

GPOBA's role:

GPOBA provided initial funding for Technical Assistance at the project preparation stage and subsequently grant funding to facilitate access to water services for poor households through a one-off connection subsidy.
