Output-Based Aid: Theory and Practice is an online course designed for development practitioners to learn about output-based aid (OBA). The course has five modules that are designed to reflect the cycle of an OBA project and draw on OBA experience in the field.

Output-Based Aid: Theory and Practice is an online course designed for development practitioners to learn about OBA. The course has five modules that are designed to reflect the cycle of an OBA project and draw on OBA experience in the field.

Upon completion of this course, the participants will be able to:

  • Understand the basics of OBA, including its core concepts 
  • Identify the essential elements in the design of an OBA project
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of the various project participants and the selection criteria for service providers and independent verification agents
  • Assess the risks and understand the challenges in structuring an OBA project, and identify methods for mitigating them
  • Demonstrate that OBA project design requires upfront analytical and advisory work and capacity building for implementation
  • Understand the nature of OBA monitoring activities (e.g. how outputs are verified) and how monitoring for results is built into OBA design
  • Know how to apply the World Bank's fiduciary policies to an OBA project

The course culminates with an assessment that verifies your knowledge of OBA.
